I recently heard the story of a young man that particularly inspired me. Thirteen-year-old Spencer Zimmerman competed successfully in triathlons. While this is an individual sport, Spencer decided that winning wasn’t the most important thing for him. He wanted to help someone else win, too, and he thought of his friend Dayton. The problem was Dayton has cerebral palsy, but that obstacle wouldn’t deter Spencer. For one triathlin, he brought along his friend, thinking that Dayton should have the opportunity to do and enjoy what everybody else does.

“Unbelievable” was all I could think as I watched the devastation in Japan on the day Gregg and I were preparing to depart to join many of our Japanese friends for their annual rally. Much like Gregg explained in the letter he wrote shortly after the event, my immediate thoughts went out to our people in Japan, many of whom I have known for decades. I wondered if they and their families were alright and what tremendous devastation this disaster would have on their lives.

And so the first month of 2010 has past, it seems like the Holidayperiod flies by so quickly. We all have so many things to achieve andnew resolutions to put in place that January is gone before you canwork out what date to write in the checkbook!
